Front-End/Javascript Developer at BuzzFeed in New York, NY

BuzzFeed is seeking an experienced developer who is passionate about developing innovative products and great user interfaces with beautiful front-end code. This is an great opportunity to make a huge impact as an integral part of our lean development team.

About You

• You love the web and building web apps. You have real-world experience shipping code and you want your work to be used by over 12 million people every month.
• You love Javascript, HTML, CSS and all their quirks. You are familiar with JS Frameworks like Prototype and JQuery but you use them as a tool, not a crutch.
• You live and breath AJAX, semantic layouts, browser testing, Firebug, and all that is modern front-end web development.
• You understand and can contribute to product design. You’re not “technically” a designer, but you appreciate and understand good UI design, UX, and typography.
• You know when to use radio buttons and when to use a drop-down.

About The Job

You’ll be creating complex interfaces and real applications with Javascript, not just adding some pretty JQuery effects. You’ll also be working with HTML, CSS, and template code, and exploring new front-end technologies with Canvas, HTML5, CSS3, etc. We have an agile, iterative development process. We deploy code many times a week, sometimes many times a day. We favor experimentation over perfection, but know when it’s important to get it right. We’re building a small, collaborative team. We’re looking for motivated individuals who can work both independently and collaboratively, own their projects, and become key contributors. We don’t want worker drones.

Pluses

• Experience with Selenium or similar tools to test front-end code Experience with mobile web development and technologies
• Experience with server-side languages like PHP, Perl, or Python
